McCain Faces Backlash Over Rabid Crowds

John McCain was booed by his own supporters during a rally on Friday after he described Barack Obama as a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

McCain was responding to a town hall attendee who claimed he was concerned about raising a child under a president who "cohorts with domestic terrorists such as [Bill] Ayers." Despite the fact that McCain and his campaign have repeatedly used Ayers to hammer Obama in recent days, the Arizona Senator tried to calm the man.

"[Senator Obama] is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States," he said, before adding: "If I didn't think I would be one heck of a better president I wouldn't be running."

The crowd groaned with disapproval.

Later, McCain was again pressed about Obama's "other-ness" and again he refused to play ball. "I don't trust Obama," a woman said. "I have read about him. He's an Arab."

"No, ma'am," McCain said several times, shaking his head in disagreement. "He's a decent, family man, [a] citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about."

At another point, McCain declared, "If you want a fight, we will fight. But we will be respectful. I admire Sen. Obama and his accomplishments." Supporters once again booed him.

Palin Abused Power Alaska panel finds

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.

The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

The report found that Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making even if it was not the sole reason Monegan was dismissed. "I feel vindicated," Monegan said. "It sounds like they've validated my belief and opinions. And that tells me I'm not totally out in left field."

Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

"I disagree," said Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein. "In order to violate the ethics law, there has to be some personal gain, usually financial. Mr. Branchflower has failed to identify any financial gain."

The statute says "any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that (public) trust."

Palin and McCain's supporters had hoped the inquiry's finding would be delayed until after the presidential election to spare her any embarrassment and to put aside an enduring distraction as she campaigns as McCain's running mate in an uphill contest against Democrat Barack Obama.

Story continues below

But the panel of lawmakers voted to release the report, although not without dissension. There was no immediate vote on whether to endorse its findings.

"I think there are some problems in this report," said Republican state Sen. Gary Stevens, a member of the panel. "I would encourage people to be very cautious, to look at this with a jaundiced eye."

The nearly 300-page report does not recommend sanctions or a criminal investigation.

The investigation revealed that Palin's husband, Todd, has extraordinary access to the governor's office and her closest advisers. He used that access to try to get trooper Mike Wooten fired, the report found.

Branchflower faulted Sarah Palin for taking no action to stop that. He also noted there is evidence the governor herself participated in the effort.

Wooten had been in hot water before Palin became governor over allegations that he illegally shot a moose, drank beer in a patrol car and used a Taser on his stepson.

In proceedings revealed by the report, former Alaska State Trooper Col. Julia Grimes told investigators that Sarah Palin called her in late 2005 to discuss why Wooten hadn't been fired, and Grimes told her the inquiry was confidential by law.

"Her questions were how can a trooper who behaves this way still be working," Grimes said. "I asked her to please trust me, that because I can't tell her details I would ask her to please trust me that I would take the appropriate action if and when I knew what the findings were. ... I couldn't have another conversation with her about it because, again, it's protected by law."

Grimes said Todd Palin also contacted her by telephone in late 2005 to discuss the confidential investigation of Wooten.

Wooten's disciplinary case was settled in September 2006 _ months before Palin was elected governor _ and he was allowed to continue working as a trooper.

After Palin's election, her new public safety commissioner, Monegan, said he was summoned to the governor's office to meet Todd Palin, who said Wooten's punishment had been merely a "slap on the wrist." Monegan said he understood the Palins wanted Wooten fired. "I had this kind of ominous feeling that I may not be long for this job if I didn't somehow respond accordingly," Monegan told the investigator.

For months afterward, Todd Palin filed complaints about Wooten, saying he was seen riding a snowmobile after he had filed a worker's compensation claim and was seen dropping off his children at school in his patrol car. Monegan said Wooten's doctor had authorized the snowmobile trip and his supervisor had approved his use of the patrol car. Monegan said Alaska's attorney general later called him to inquire about Wooten, and Monegan told him they shouldn't be discussing the subject.

"This was an issue that apparently wasn't going to go away, that there were certainly frustrations," Monegan said. "To say that (Sarah Palin) was focused on this I think would be accurate."

Sarah Palin: Friend to Anti-American Secessionists

Donna Brazile: We're Not Goin' Back...We're Goin' Forward

If you watch one video I have uploaded to this blog, let it be this one.
Donna Brazile hits the nail right square on the head and to be
honest had me tearing up:

"Let's not play these games. Don't let people trick you.
Don't let people divide you or distract you.
Don't let no one take us back. Because many of us
are not going back. We're going forward...and come with us!"

Not Only But Also

Palin held her first press avail (not press conference) last night just before the debate. It was unannounced and
on the plane. Here's her response to a question about Ayers:

"It is pertinent, it's important because when you consider Barack Obama's reaction to and explanation to
his association there, and without him being clear at all on what he knew and when he knew it, that I think
kinda peeks into his ability to tell us the truth on, but not only on association but perhaps other things also.

So, it's relevant, I believe, and I brought it up in response to the New York Times article having been printed
recently, and I think it just makes us ask the question that, if there's not forthrightness there, with that association
and what was known and when it was known, and who does that lead us to ask, is there forthrightness with the
plans Barack Obama has or say tax cuts, or spending increases, makes us question judgment. And I think it's fair
and relevant."

I did not alter this in any way....this is how this woman speaks.
Gov. Palin, please go back to Alaska where they inexplicably like you and somehow understand you....

Who Won The Debate? Clean Sweep For Obama

Focus group polls say, by and large, that Obama scored a
victory in the second debate.

NBC's focus group of undecided Pennsylvania voters had the
Illinois Democrat winning by roughly a 60-40 split. Frank Luntz's
focus group, over at Fox, showed undecided voters leaning towards
Obama because of his position on health care. CBS's focus group
of independents had the Democratic nominee winning the debate at
39 percent to McCain's 27 percent. Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a
Democratic polling firm, had a focus group of undecideds leaning
to Obama by a margin of 42 percent to 24 percent.

SurveyUSA interviewed 741 debate watchers in the state of Washington,
54 percent thought Obama was the "clear winner" compared with McCain's
29 percent.

And the CNN focus group of undecided voters in Ohio had the margin
at an even wider spread: Obama 54 percent to McCain's 30.

McCain Makes No Mention Of "Middle Class" -- Again

According to the transcript, mentions of "middle class":

Obama: 4
McCain: 0

That's a repeat from the first debate. John McCain has now
gone through both debates without mentioning the middle class.

Juan and Chinatown

My friend Juan (my good friend Meada's husband) came to visit and
wanted to go see Chinatown so of course I took him to Sam Wo's, a
local institution. Sam's is famous not necessarily for having the best
food or service but more or less for being quite the experience. Our food
was adequate (re. salty), service was surly, and we left quite satisfied.

Afterwards we walked over to my absolutely favorite
Chinatown spots, a fortune cookie factory hidden in an
alleyway. Here's a video of the woman who sits next to a
griddle and folds fortunes into the freshly baked cookies .

He also gave me my birthday gift from their kids, Cecilia and Gabriel:
freshly made blueberry jam....three words: a-ston-ishing! : )
THANKS!

Olbermann Explains It All

The "Obama-Terrorist" crap that's being thrown around by the McCain/Failin'
campaign is desperation at its worst and such a load of horse manure.

This next clip is long I know, but take the time. Olbermann is one of the few newsmen working
today that I trust to sort out an issue and really put it into perspective.

How Effective Racism Can Be

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if Obama was a member of the Keating-5?
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if McCain was still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after an accident left her disfigured?

What if Michelle Obama was a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

McCain Camp Admits They Have No Choice But Go Negative

One thing’s for sure…tomorrow’s debate is going to be VERY interesting.

Electoral College Projection (10-6-08)

Keep in mind a candidate needs 270 to win
Keeping in mind I grew up in the forests of south eastern Oklahoma and have spent many a day out hunting. My family hunted deer, mainly for food purposes. This clip below and what it makes public is just disgusting.

Sarah Palin is an enthusiastic supporter of killing completely defenseless animals from the air. As Governor of Alaska, she has offered helicopter and airplane shooters of wolves $150 each for each severed front leg of a wild wolf. Most are shot from the air, often not killed outright and left to die on the ground. Palin enthusiastically defends this cruelty. It is no coincidence that the Humane Society Legislative Fund has decided to endorse Obama for president this year. They have never endorsed a president before.

McCain Angers the GOP In Michigan

"If you are going to end visits to the state, just do it. Don't formally announce
that you are 'pulling out' of Michigan, and then come back two days later asking the core supporters
to 'keep working.' What a slap in the face to the thousands of people who have been energized by the
addition of Sarah Palin to the ticket. I've been involved in County Party politics and organization for
40 years, and this is the biggest dumbass stunt I have ever seen...what a total and complete crock of crap.

Again, I think McCain owes the Republicans and the People of Michigan a HUGE
APOLOGY. SOON!" - Jack Waldvogel, Chairman of the Emmet County GOP.

Obama Takes A Commanding Lead in the National Polls

Open Left has a graph (reproduced above) of Obama and McCain's standing in the national polls over the past 10 days. While Presidents aren't elected by popular vote, this large a difference is going to show up in the state polls in the swing states, as it is starting to do. It is hard to imagine anyone losing the popular vote by 8 points and winning the electoral vote.
